Ruth Smith Place

Music & Performance

Music is a language of connection, story, and soul. Through performance, songwriting, and collaborative projects, I share sound as a way to witness, reflect, and invite presence.

At The Ruth Smith Place, my musical work is rooted in truth-telling, creative vulnerability, and shared emotion. Whether I’m performing solo, collaborating with other artists, or holding space in song circles and ceremonies, I use music as a tool to bridge hearts and speak what words alone sometimes can’t.

My performances often weave song with story, stillness with rhythm—creating experiences that are intimate, real, and alive. As a songwriter, I explore themes of belonging, transformation, place, and inner resilience.

I’ve worked across theatre stages, radio studios, folk festivals, church halls, and sacred circles. Each setting brings something different—and I show up with the same intention: to meet people where they are, through music that is honest and human.

Whether you're attending a live show, collaborating on a piece, or experiencing a moment of shared singing in a circle, the invitation is the same: to feel, to listen, to remember something true.

With The Ruth Smith Place, music becomes more than sound—it becomes a space to come home to yourself, and to each other

What you should know

  • You don’t have to be a musician to connect
Music is for everyone. Whether you’re in the audience, singing in circle, or co-creating a project, the invitation is simply to listen, feel, and connect.

  • Performances are intimate, grounded, and real
Expect storytelling, emotional depth, silence between songs, and shared breath—these are not polished stage shows but honest, alive moments of connection.

  • Themes often explore belonging, loss, hope, and becoming
Through original music and spoken word, I explore the messiness and magic of life. You may laugh, cry, or feel deeply moved—and that’s welcomed.

  • You might be invited into participation (but never pressured)
In some settings, I offer simple group singing, reflective questions, or communal presence. It’s always optional and gently held.

  • Suitable for a wide range of events and venues
From festivals and community halls to wellness spaces and sacred ceremonies, my musical work adapts to the spirit of the space and people present.

  • My approach is rooted in presence and truth-telling
Every performance or collaboration is an offering from the heart, crafted not for applause—but for resonance, remembrance, and shared humanness.

Frequently Asked Questions

I perform original songs rooted in folk, acoustic, and storytelling traditions. My music often weaves together themes of belonging, grief, joy, healing, and resilience—with space for silence and reflection between songs.

I’ve performed in a wide range of spaces—festivals, intimate venues, radio studios, wellness gatherings, theatre settings, and sacred or ceremonial events. I meet each space with care and adapt to its tone and purpose.

Both, and neither. My performances often feel more like a shared space than a stage show. I blend story, music, and presence to create an experience that invites people to feel, reflect, and connect.

Absolutely. I love working with schools, arts organisations, local groups, and other creatives. Whether it's a co-written piece, a ceremony, or a themed collaboration, I’m open to exploring meaningful partnerships.

Yes. In addition to performance, I sometimes guide group singing or musical rituals. These are accessible and heart-led—focused on connection rather than performance.

It’s personal, poetic, and grounded in lived experience. I don’t sing to impress—I sing to witness, soothe, and speak to what’s real. It’s music with soul, story, and space for you to feel something true.
